Community Employment Athenry

Athenry Community Council would like to acknowledge and extend sincere gratitude to the Athenry and Newcastle District Community Employment Project’s staff for their ongoing support and contribution to the town of Athenry and the village of Newcastle.

The Community Employment Team consists of 1 Supervisor and 15 participants which comprises of 3 Office Staff, 3 Caretakers and 9 Environmental Operatives. Some of the Groups and Organisations who benefit from CE involvement include, but are not limited to:

  • Cancer Care

  • Tidy Towns

  • The Heritage Centre

  • Community Child Care Centre

  • Kenny Park

  • St. Mary’s GAA in Carnaun

  • Pastoral Centre/Canton Hall

  • Newcastle Community Council

  • Athenry Community Council

The varied skills and shared knowledge of this hard working, behind the scenes, group has added greatly to the development of Athenry and its’ surrounding Parish.

Repaving In Progress

One of the most recent projects undertaken by the group was the repair of the driveway entrance to Geal Scoil Riada and the GAA Community Grounds at Raheen. This project was completed over the Easter period on behalf of the Community Council in Athenry for the benefit of everyone who uses the facilities in Raheen.
